Big Green Egg Introduces New Mini-Max Portable Grill
Big Green Egg has announced today the release of the newest offering to it's quiver of cookers. It is called the Mini-Max and it was unveiled today at the Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue Expo in Salt Lake City, UT.
For the habitual Big Green Egg enthusiast, one look at the Mini-Max and you can tell some serious thought and work went into this one. The first thing you notice from the exterior is that the thermometer is about twice as large as the thermometers on the current Big Green Egg offerings. A gentleman pointed out to me that his eyesight is not quite as spry as it once was and he already finds the larger thermometer easier to read.
When you open the Mini-Max, it has the same cooking area as the Small Big Green Egg, 13 inches in diameter. But what is noticeably different is that the bottom fire grate on the Mini-Max measures 10.5 inches across. In comparison, the bottom fire grate on the Small Big Green Egg measures in about half that size at 5.5 inches. This means more air flow for the Mini-Max and more control over what you are cooking. The Mini-Max sits under 20 inches tall but seems to have an impressive amount of surface area for its size.
I spoke with a Big Green Egg company representative at the booth and was told there will be a line of accessories to go along with Mini-Max including an option for indirect cooking and a device that puts emphasis on portability. Although I was unable to get complete details on the accessory for portability, I was assured it will take the awkwardness out of how and where to grab it when you are ready for travel.
