I'm pretty excited to get my hands on the new Precision Adjust knife sharpener by Work Sharp.
They provided me with the new Precision Adjust knife sharpener to test and review ahead of its launch and it couldn't have come at a better time.
The pandemic has given me the opportunity to not only think more creatively about cooking but it also made me consider how I maintain my cooking equipment.
The grills, smokers, griddles, outdoor ovens, and air fryers I own, all have their place in creating delicious foods.
But without a doubt, having a well-maintained and properly sharpened knife is the single most important building block of a great dish.
Lately, I've been adding knife maintenance to my meal prep list and the Work Sharp Precision Adjust knife sharpener is quickly becoming my go-to sharpener.
The Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener is an angle-adjustable knife sharpening system with three different abrasive grits that delivers precision and repeatability.
The sharpening angle is easily adjusted from 15° to 30° in 1° increments to sharpen both outdoor and kitchen knives.
The sharpening material or Tri-Brasive™ is a three-sided system that allows you to almost instantly switch between sharpening surfaces.
It includes a diamond plated 320 grit coarse, a 600 grit fine coarse, and a fine grit ceramic coarse. The 320 course and 600 fine grit diamond plates work to quickly restore a sharp edge after some usage.
Once you restore the edge, switch to the fine grit ceramic material to hone your blade to an incredibly keen edge.
The three abrasives in the Tri-Brasive handle are individually replaceable if they get worn or damaged. Not only is this a nice feature, but it speaks volumes about how WorkSharp creates quality products, built to last.
The knife is secured before sharpening using a V Block Clamp™quickly and safely securing the knife to the sharpener.
Insert the knife and position it in the clamp, then secure it to the collet by rotating the cog until it's plenty snug.
To make sure you sharpen both sides of the blade efficiently, the V Block Clamp indexes 180°. What this means is that at the push of a button you can unlock the system and rotate the knife. This creates symmetrical bevels on both sides of the blade.
The device comes with a sharpening base that provides a stable platform for benchtop usage. The platform is optional and convenient for use in the shop or the kitchen. But the sharpener can be handheld and used without the base if you're in the field.
The sharpening rod is secured with a magnet that makes it easy to install or remove when sharpening.
I appreciate that no water or oil is required when using this sharpener. Less mess means you get to sharpening faster and spend less time during setup and clean up.
This sharpener is supported by Work Sharp’s customer service and a 3-year warranty.
What I like about the Work Sharp Precision Adjust knife sharpener
It requires no power
The Work Sharp Precision Adjust knife sharpener is compact and requires no electricity. Although electricity is not at a premium in my kitchen I love the ability to just sit down at the counter and start sharpening without having to mess with a plug.
The sharpener is ergonomic
After a few sessions sharpening 8-10 knives at a time, I appreciate how ergonomic the sharpener is. From affixing the knife to the sharpener to creating a burr, and ultimately honing the user does not get fatigued sharpening multiple knives.
There aren't that many moving parts
This sharpener consists of a base, angle adjustment rig, securing clamp, and a sharpening course arm. There just aren't that many moving parts meaning fewer things can go wrong.
What can be improved
I take no issue with the performance of this sharpener.
Like a fly-fisherman who has a dedicated tying table, or a bird hunter that is set up to reload shells I wish I had a prep station or shop area sufficient for keeping the sharpener out at all times.
In lieu of a dedicated sharpening station, a carrying pouch would be a helpful addition to the sharpener for people like me who keep it stored in the pantry somewhere between the bundt pan and the charcuterie board.
The Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener has an MSRP of $ 59.95, so I don't take too much issue with the lack of a storage or carrying case.
If you're looking for a manual sharpening system to add to your indoor or outdoor gear, I suggest you check out the Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener.
It provides superior repeatability, adjustability, and performance over other similar sharpening systems at a price that can't be beat for this type of quality.

That's not a bad price for a great Christmas gift!

This is a bit of a biased review. This sharpener cannot sharpen filet or other thin blade knives reliably because the knife doesn't stick out far enough from the holder for the stone to hit all of the blade. Further, with only 2 grits to sharpen, you won't get the sharp edge that you need. It is an OK sharpener for wide blade knives. It would be better if more grits were available to grind a really good edge.

I've had good results from only the two grits and the ceramic, I'd say it's a 8.7 out of ten. There's an extension pack that includes a carry case as well as different grit sizes for +$80 or you can buy everything at once for about $120. I noticed that the magnet that holds the knife blade in can fall out if you apply too much pressure. I'm not sure if this is a bad item I received or if there all this way but I plan to purchuse the whole kit to get the extra grits as well as a new base kit to see the difference

I agree with you Michael-
After some use, one of my tiny grommet rings broke. I need to reach out to them and have them send me a new one. I could see a real benefit to having a carrying case, but that is my opinion about most of the WorkSharp products.
