Travel for me is a necessary evil. Lately, I have been on the road and in hotels 2-3 nights a week and spending a lot of time in the car. When I am driving an average of about 275 miles between destination, eating healthy has often slipped my mind. Road food is often food that is easily accessible and at times, it is the only thing that is still open.
Lately, I have been packing some food along with me on the road. Unfortunately, I cannot bring enough to cover all my meals, so I still am at the mercy of eating out. But now I am trying to do it following a Lo-Carb lifestyle.
Jimmy John’s sandwiches are a staple favorite of mine and I enjoy them regardless if I am home or away. Tonight, I tried the Jimmy John’s #9 Un-wich. It is all the same ingredients minus the bun, and neatly rolled in lettuce as a wrapper. I read that my sandwich had 8 total carbs.
I LOVE Jimmy John’s buns, so I was a little skeptical about having one of their sandwiches wrapped in lettuce. Much to my surprise, the Lo-carb sandwich was yummy and fulfilling.
The hotel I stay at often had dinner receptions, and for the most part they are very good. I do not always like to have to eat dinner during those times, but do try to poke my head in if I am around just to see what I am missing. This night, the theme was comfort food and from what I could tell, it consisted of a baked potato bar, salad bar, and some desserts. I grabbed some salad, with cheese, and bacon bits, a few slices of cucumber, and some dressing that had 3 carbs per packet.
Overall, eating dinner in the hotel turned out to be quite a success. It will be interesting to see what I come up with next time-
